Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri

Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)

Dr. Altwaijri was born in 1950 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He holds a B.A. in English Language and History with distinction from the College of Education in King Saud University, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and PhD in Curriculum from the University of Oregon in the United States.

He has served as: Assistant Professor, College of Education, King Saud University, (1982 - 1985); Supervisor of the Center of Authorship, Translation and Publication, and school textbooks Center, King Saud University and Deputy Director General for Culture, ISESCO (1985 - 1991).

He was unanimously elected Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -ISESCO- by the Fourth General Conference of the Organization, held in Rabat, in November 1991; Unanimously re-elected Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization by ISESCO's Fifth General Conference, held in Damascus, in November 1994; Unanimously re-elected Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -ISESCO-, for two three-year terms of office, by the Sixth General Conference of ISESCO, held in Riyadh, in December 1997 and unanimously re-elected Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -ISESCO-, for two three-year terms of office, by the Eighth General Conference of ISESCO, held in Tehran, in December 2003.

He is the Secretary General of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, a member of the Board of Trustees of: The Islamic University in Niger, the Islamic University in Uganda, the Islamic University in Pakistan and the Islamic University in Bangladesh.

Dr. Altwaijri is a member of the Royal Al-Albayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordan; a member of Member of the Advisory Committee of the Arab-Islamic Civilization Encyclopedia; a member of the World Islamic Forum for Dialogue; a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab-European Centre for Studies in Paris; a Correspondent Member of the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo; an Honorary member of the Argentine and Arab Cultural Institute in Buenos Aires, a member of the Arab Thought Forum in Amman, a member of the scientific committee of Prince Abdulmuhsin Bin Jallawi Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Sharjah, a member of the Council of the 100 leaders, affiliated to the World Economic Forum, a member of the General Assembly of the World Academy for Bringing Muslim Madhahib Closer Together, Tehran, an Honorary member of the Supreme Council for Education in Peru, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and cooperation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Open University of Islamic Civilization in Beirut, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilization in Doha, Executive Director of " Islam Today, an Islamic academic journal published in Arabic, English and French ; and " AL JAMIA " Journal published by the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World.

He is the author of numerous educational and cultural monographs and research papers as well as numerous articles published in leading magazines.
