Phase III of the Multi-religious Humanitarian Fund Launched

Background

In 2022, it is estimated that 274 million people¹ will need humanitarian assistance and nearly
80%² of all humanitarian needs are a result of conflict. In times of conflict, millions of people particularly women, children and other vulnerable groups, are not reached by humanitarian assistance. By the time traditional humanitarian assistance providers have mobilised, organised and deployed support, the situation will have almost always worsened with the most vulnerable groups negatively impacted the most. However, religious leaders and institutions have the presence, access, reach and networks to quickly mobilise and provide life-saving aid to those most in need. When they work together, these multi-religious efforts are more inclusive, more efficient, and more powerful.

Launch of Phase III

For over 50 years, Religions for Peace and its network of six regional and over 90 national interreligious councils, youth and women of faith networks has consistently responded to global challenges by coordinating and supporting multi-religious efforts in building “positive peace,” which also includes delivering lifesaving support to communities in conflict situations.
Religions for Peace has launched the third phase of the Multi-Religious Humanitarian Fund to provide seed grants to interfaith initiatives that aid those displaced by conflict in –
  • Ukraine
  • Syria
  • Yemen
  • Myanmar
  • Bangladesh
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cameroon
  • Haiti
  • Colombia
  • Afghanistan
The seed grants encourage interreligious platforms and project partners to raise additional resources to scale up their efforts and ensure the sustainability of these projects. The project must be Interreligious in nature (i.e. implemented through multi-religious collaboration, and beneficiaries of the project must be people from diverse religious groups). Activities for this round of funding must serve and support those affected by conflict in the regions mentioned above.
Religions for Peace reserves the right to decide on all projects. Decisions will be made based on a need and a proven track record.
