Mufti Husein Smajić is a member of the Interreligious Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina-Religions for Peace, on behalf of the Islamic Community.

Dr. Husejin Smajić was born in 1952 in Tešanj. Gazi Husrev-bey’s Medres in Sarajevo ended in 1972. He graduated from the University of Al-Azhar in Cairo in 1978. He received his Master’s degree in 2011 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo. He registered his doctorate at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

From 1978 to 1983, he worked as the Chief Imam of the Committee of the Islamic Community of Zvornik. From 1986 to 1990, he held the duty of the imams of the Čaršija mosque in Kiseljak near Sarajevo and the duty of the Main Imams of the Committee of the Islamic Community Kiseljak. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Chief of the Board of the Islamic Community of Sarajevo.

By a decision of the Assembly of the Islamic Community in BiH, he was appointed to the Sarajevo Mufti where he was in office until April 2014. He has been serving as deputy Reis-I-Ulema since April 2014.
