Religions for Peace’s Statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

27 January 2023

On this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Religions for Peace, the largest global coalition of faith leaders representing their respective religious institutions and faith communities, from every corner of our world, and in the name of its World Council, and all our 90+ Interreligious Councils, our Youth and Women Networks strongly reiterates that any and all forms of hatred and discrimination are contrary to the spirit, letter and form, of all faith traditions.

There is no justice, no mercy, nor love, in any form of violence: thought, spoken, written, and/or enacted.

Therefore, we reiterate, time and again, that no faith can be used to legitimise any act of violence. The Religions for Peace movement strongly endorses and actively supports, all faith actors who advocate for peace, mercy and justice.

On behalf of this movement, on this day, and every day, we recommit to continuing our decades’ long service for sustainable and holistic peace, relying on, and believing in multi-religious collaboration as a key to securing sustained dignity for everyone, and for our planet, in every corner of our world.

Please join us to support this global movement toward peace for all.

In peace and gratitude,

Professor Azza Karam, Secretary General, Religions for Peace
