Statement by the Religions for Peace – Myanmar regarding the prevailing condition in Myanmar

1. Religions for Peace-Myanmar which represent the followers of Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam would like to express our anxiety and deep concern pertaining to the present situation in Myanmar. Therefore, RfP-M has been endeavoring to find a way out in accordance with the teachings mentioned in the various religious scriptures.

2. The statement issued by the Patron of the RfP-Myanmar His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, regarding the present condition in Myanmar is absolutely appropriate and true. RfP-Myanmar unanimously endorsed the statement and accepted it entirely as the view of RfP-Myanmar.

3. Since its inception RfP-Myanmar firmly believed that the diversity in plural Myanmar society should be regarded as strength and not for discriminating and fear as a threat. The beauty of Motherland Myanmar lies in the fact that it resembles a beautiful garden with varieties of colorful flowers blossoming.

4. With that vision and Mission in mind, RfP-Myanmar convened three forums consisting of all the stakeholders involved in establishing a peaceful, developed and just Myanmar (Where national reconciliation, harmony and amicable society prevail), such as representatives from multi-racial, multi-religious groups, Government, Military, Political Parties, Ethnic Arm Groups, CSO, NGOs, INGOs, Diplomats and Delegates from different layers of the Myanmar Society.

5. In the third forum all the major stakeholders who were responsible for nation-building participated. RfP-Myanmar managed to create a space where everyone could air their view.

6. Thus we, the RfP-Myanmar, have humbly but with full determinations affirmed to resolve the differences through peaceful negotiation and dialogue in accordance with the teachings of the various religious scriptures. To conclude, RfP-Myanmar would pursue the road map mentioned in our Patron His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo message conveyed to the people of Myanmar, Military Leaders, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the International Communities.
