The Religions for Peace family mourns the loss of the former President of Religions for Peace- The Netherlands, Ambassador Edy Korthals Altes
20211225Edy was a great man, who dedicated the ‘second part’ of his life (of 97 years) to (international) cooperation, banning nuclear weapons and peace – after a work-life as ambassador of the Netherlands, a function that he quit earlier than usual, when he (we all) learned that the Netherlands was going to store nuclear weapons. He could not represent his country anymore, he realized, because of this. And a dream, in which he was asked: ‘And you, what did you do with your abilities, at this critical moment?’, helped him to make the change to writing and speaking about how to contribute to peace… He lived in the ‘presence’ of the transcendental, his spirituality made him strong… He was blind, the past 8 years… but his mind stayed clear and up to his last breath his care was devoted to this goal, his family, to generations to come and to mankind. May we all find strength in the example he was for us. We will miss his gentleness, his positivity and his care.
